Barbara Leatham Photography | About
A big welcome and thank you for dropping by, my name is Barbara and I’m a Wiltshire-based professional photographer.

I specialise in children and families, weddings and commercial work and I am an active member of the Guild of Photographers where many of my images have won prestigious awards. I also offer beginners training courses to amateur photographers wanting to get the most out of their digital cameras.

My journey started 20 years ago when I joined the RAF as a single parent. I worked my way through their basic military training programme and then threw myself into their highly intensive photography programme. This gave me a solid grounding on the science of photography, lighting and trusting my instinct to get the shot when it mattered most. I spent five years serving within the RAF which has taught me so much about myself and which culminated in me meeting, falling in love and marrying my soul mate too.

I left the RAF and moved on to complete my Masters Degree in Photographic Studies which unleashed the creativity and thorough understanding of the narrative of imagery; this has led me to where I am today - a successful Salisbury business woman, proud mum and devoted wife.
With a core passion for photographing life and preserving precious moments, I know these are treasured dearly by my clients. I also focus intently on commercial photography and am frequently in London and Newbury where I help corporate clients and start-ups to kick-start their business’ visual presence with relevant, on brand imagery.

It’s always difficult to put into words how photography is a part of my world; it’s something I think about knowingly and tactically all of the time, I see every moment as a picture waiting to happen. I’m a true romantic at heart and see art and beauty wherever I go. I love to create visual narrative and have been told I have a fine eye and talent for creating the extraordinary from the ordinary.

I’d love to get to know you a little better and find out more about what you are looking for and how I can help, so do get in touch for an informal chat to find out more about my services.

I will leave you with the beautiful words of Ralph Gibson

Even though fixed in time, a photograph evokes as much feeling as that which comes from music or dance. Whatever the mode - from the snapshot to the decisive moment to multi-media montage - the intent and purpose of photography is to render in visual terms feelings and experiences that often elude the ability of words to describe. In any case, the eyes have it, and the imagination will always soar farther than was expected.
