Who else has noticed that time is so busy and full of work that we almost have to book slots of time into our diaries to be parents so we can be with our children...?
I recently photographed a family, a dad with three boys, and we had the most fun. But even he was saying that juggling time for his business and time for his boys was a constant battle and it really resinated with me.
James, with his boys, Nathan (12), Kieran (10) and Cameron (7) travelled to me in Wiltshire all the way from London for their shoot; we headed to a little known place that I use in my village, which all year round is beautiful and inspiring. Afterwards we headed to the local park, where the kids could run about, climb, swing and just hang out with dad for a bit. And I'm so glad I got to photograph Nathan before he got too much older, teens change so fast, they start turning into adults before you know it; these images are going to become all the more precious for that.
Quality time with family can be pretty hard to find, and one of the things I love about doing family shoots is that I feel like I'm giving them some quality time together, the permission they sometimes need to relax, have fun, enjoy and be carefree, as well as capturing these moments forever.
We get so caught up in the day to day mundane that it's easy to forget simply how to have fun.
