There are, on occasions, times when I get an idea that I want to play about with, but you can't really do that with a paying client. So, for those of us in the business of creating, we collaborate with fellow creatives and experiment with our ideas to see what happens.
I had this crazy idea about mixing the theme of Steam Punk with a horse; which in turn lead to the idea of Dick Turpin. Sadly Dick didn't make an appearance, he was rather shy on the day - BUT - five of us got together and had a complete blast.
In the first picture you can see Steph and "Mr Horse Face" I know it's rather rude not to remember a name, (and I'm the worst for it) but it was Hannah's fault - in the next picture - it was all she kept calling him.
Hannah and Mr Horse Face seemed to hit if off pretty well at the start. So while Hannah ( part time actress and soon to be nurse), Nedine (fellow photographer and fluffer for the day), Liv (amazing Make Up Artist) and myself went to get a few things together ready for the shoot, Steph said she would give Mr Horse Face a little run out to calm him before the shoot. Everything was going fine so far, but you know something is coming.
Mr HF did a runner! And not just out of the yard; oh no - he went down the road and in the end, four (Yes that's FOUR) miles towards Newbury/Compton way. Well, what's a photographer to do?? No, I don't know either.
After a phone call, a quick delivery of a horse riding harness (by Hannah to Steph who had chased off after Mr HF) and a few phone calls, Hannah came back, shortly followed by Mr HF and the rather annoyed (at the horse I might add) Steph.
So, everything is back on track and so the shoot began. Sadly, because our wonder horse wasn't playing nicely I couldn't get any photos of Hannah on him, but we did manage to get some great atmospheric images.
As it happened, on the day, we had the most amazing dark (thunder loaded) clouds. It all added to the drama of the shoot. I'd like to say that I planned it that way, but to be honest it was pure luck.
I think even Steph managed to forgive Mr HF in the end, and I have to say, he is a stunning horse.
Mr Horse Face wasn't the only one to 'horse around' during the shoot. No chance of anything truly serious was ever going to take place after we'd had the Great Escape, so we embraced the fun, made light of the day but still came away with some great memories.
BTW, this is Nedine fussing the dog - who was also a bit of a show stealer. I can't understand how Liv managed to avoid my camera, but I promise she was there x
I'm always thinking of ideas that I'd like to try out for shoots. If you are an aspiring model, a creative make-up artist or you feel you've got a crazy idea that you want to try out, let me know, maybe it's something that will inspire me too.
Collaborations are the times when people like me can push our work and create something new and ground breaking. I'm not sure what came out of this particular shoot, although I do know I want to work with all four ladies again some time soon!
My thanks to Hannah Belton, Steph Bird, Nedine O'Brien and Liv Burton.
If you live in the Reading area and you are looking for a Make Up Artist then give Liv a shout, she is brilliant and very dedicated to her trade.
